Located in DeSoto County, Mississippi, Horn Lake is a Memphis, Tennessee suburb. Horn Lake is located just 18 miles south of downtown Memphis, and it is about 70 miles northwest of Oxford, Mississippi. This community is growing, and as of 2010 its population had exceeded 26,000 residents. The area is served by the DeSoto County School District, and Newly Weds Foods is one of the community’s largest employers. The plant manufactures seasonings, food coatings, and other food processing ingredients and plays an important role in the local economy.
With a motto of “Doorway to Mississippi,” it is not surprising that there are a variety of things to see and do in Horn Lake. There are several popular retail stores located in this community, including Home Depot, the Leather Store, and Kroger. Specialty shops like Small Treasures can also be found here. The Circle G Elvis Ranch, which is a 154 acre ranch that was previously owned by Elvis Presley, is located in this community, and it was recently sold to be redeveloped. Card game fans also appreciate the presence of the American Contract Bridge League, which promotes the game of bridge in North America.
The area surrounding Horn Lake is also home to some popular attractions. Located in nearby Coldwater, Arkabutla Lake is a great destination for hikers, campers, fisherman, and hunters. With its westerly winds, Arkabutla is also one of the best lakes for sailing in the country. If you are feeling lucky, a short 20 minute drive outside of Horn Lake can also give you several different casinos to visit, including Gold Strike and Bally’s.
Summers in Horn Lake can be intense, as they often feature high humidity and temperature readings.
